About the Author

I’m Dave Sellars (aka Dr Habits) author of Stop or Start Habits with Outcome Visioning. As a former university professor, I have guided thousands of students in building good habits that allowed them to meet their educational and career goals. As a life coach for changing habits, my current focus is on helping you stop bad habits and start good habits so you can lead the life you want to live.

In my mid-twenties I realized I had personal problems that were formed in childhood. So I began a thirty-year journey of self-discovery and personal growth. I studied and used many therapeutic treatments to solve my problems: transcendental meditation under the leadership of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Gestalt therapy, transactional analysis, Rolfing, auditing therapy offered by the Church of Scientology, hypnosis, subliminal tapes, yoga, journaling, and many self-help books. Throughout these years I sought counseling from at least eight psychologists. The most beneficial means to address the problems was counseling.

In 2008 I had an aha moment. I was reading a book on personal growth and saw a definition of habit. It said a habit is a pattern of behavior, thoughts, or feelings. The question came to mind, “Isn’t all personal growth dependent on changes in behavior, thoughts, and feelings?” To test my theory I began to record habits that I observed in myself and others. My investigation continued with reading more than 100 books and articles on habits and how they affect people’s lives. My personal experiences and research have convinced me that if you want to change your life, you must change your habits.

This personal revelation was so important that I decided to use what I learned to help myself and others interested in changing habits. I’d written books in other areas, but this led me to write my practical guide to habit change. Stop or Start Habits with Outcome Visioning offers a step-by-step proven process to changing habits. Outcome Visioning provides the motivation and willpower needed to change.

By John Cichy This book was so relevant to my situation, that I read and started applying it in one sitting. I have struggled with finishing a book that I started writing five years ago. In the past, I would revisit the book content I had completed a third of the way, only to stall in terms of restarting my writing effort. My wife suggested that I do what her friend had recommended - visit myhabits.com and see if I could be helped by Dr. Habit’s book (see above), as the book helped her sister lose weight with ideas to supplement the Weight Watchers Program. I ordered a copy and I am using the outcome visioning ideas espoused in the book. I am motivated to start writing once again – Dr. Habits practical ideas are really useful. Staying on a writing plan will not be hard for me now and I am confident that visioning will help me reach my book publication goal. Dr. Habits has been a big help!

For the last four weeks I have been using your Outcome Visioning and other techniques to decrease and stop my smoking habit. I would like to say for the last four weeks I haven't smoked due in part to your book and the ideas it presents in changing habits. I am confident I can make the six week mark and kick the habit. I also want to thank you for your helpful insight on your website and videos. The videos help to clarify in a visual manner what you present in your book. I wholeheartly give this book a 5 thumbs up!

I found this book to be well organized, easy to read, and extremely helpful in starting a path to a better me. I chose one area (to be healthier) and I am following the logical and helpful five step process. I know it will take time and commitment, but Stop or Star Habits has been and will continue to be my guide in reaching my goal. I highly recommend this book!
