Relaxing adult coloring book By r3t1awr3yd I got this for my lady friend while she spent a ton of time in the hospital with her daughter suffering from hydrocephalus. This with a set of coloring pencils and sharpener and she was able to relax a bit with this cathartic time suck.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. but this is one of the best coloring books I've used By Chuck Huffman I don't often write reviews, but this is one of the best coloring books I've used. The key attribute for such a high rating is that it uses fine outlines for its shapes and designs, which allows for more coloring options like tracing over the outlines for added design choices. The designs themselves are also detailed enough to keep the user interested and entertained for weeks.

The paper is thick (I use Prismacolor pencils) bright white and smooth.There is a variety of motifs (simple and intricate) and each has a "theme'' written below the motif. The hardcover rests flat and provides great support for coloring in any position. I love that I keep returning to "completed" pictures and add or change colors to further elaborate on the originals. How wonderfully calming to watch as the colors come to life. I do not have the talent to draw or paint but coloring in these motifs encourages me to experiment and it's been so satisfying. I went to a chain bookstore to see the other coloring books that people are raving about on Amazon and I must say, I chose one less popular and this one is completely above the others. Hoping that Ms Launay creates follow-up coloring books although it amazes me how one picture can keep me busy for hours.

A Warm Look at the Relationship Between a Cat and The Guy Who Grew to Love Him By Ron Collins I was a beta reader of this book, and I can say I totally enjoyed it. Albert Sisson writes the story of The Guy and The Cat in alternating points of view and in a tone that will make cat lovers smile. The story is a mystery, you see? Or maybe it's a Bro-mance. Or a memoir. Or ... well, it's about a cat, so you can call it just about anything, right?

Arni was eventually able to train The Guy to be the person he wanted him to be. The book is very humorous and as a long-time cat owner and lover, I believe Mr. Sisson has captured his experiences with Arni perfectly. Everyone, cat lovers and non-cat lovers alike, should read this book.Arni, The Cat It's a wonderful book!

If you’re looking for ways on how to start doing it, this book can be really helpful. “Mini Farming” provided tips and techniques on how to make use of the space you have for mini-gardening, how you can set it up, what tools you need and what specific vegetables can you grow in your own little garden. Aside from gardening, you will also find good information about the basics of micro livestock and raise chickens, bees and goats in your yard in this book. By Imral Haffatt The concept of mini farming has always intrigued me to the point where I have done a bit of it in the past. Even now I have a few small trees on the very small amount of free land that I have. The book gives some great tips on how to do mini farming and what to plant. It also shows how you can raise small animals like goats and bees on a very small plot of land. Success won't come overnight, so a lot of patience is required. I can attest to that.I have always loved farming, so this book really appealed to me. If you want to farm but think your land space is too small, think again. Read the book and you will see what I mean.

I’ve just finished The Power of Manifesting by Tonja Waring and Wow just keeps repeating in my head. There are so many nuggets of truth and wisdom in this book and I don’t want to miss any; I’m about to read it again! The book is written in a thoughtful and encouraging voice and while the words are simply phrased, the concepts are powerful. About the Author Sherri Mandell was born in New York and graduated from Cornell University and Colorado State University, where she received an M.A. in Creative Writing. She taught writing at the University of Maryland and at Penn State before moving to Israel with her family in 1996. She is the author of Writers of the Holocaust and has written for numerous magazines and journals, including the Washington Post, the Denver Post and the Jerusalem Post. Ms. Mandell is Director of the Koby Mandell Foundation Women's Healing Retreat for Bereaved Mothers and Widows.

While especially poignant and meaningful for those who have lost loved ones in terrorist attacks, the book speaks to anyone who is facing a difficult challenge... and aren't we all? I think I will read it once a month to be inspired and help keep me on the right track in life. Thank you, Sherri, for writing such an amazing book!

In a lucid and articulate manner the author provides a guide for those who have suffered loss. This work is also highly valuable to any mental health proffesional who works with a clientele struggling with grief and loss. I found this book to be spiritually uplifting, even though it is anchored in jewish sources this work is relevant to any person struggling with issues of faith in the face of adversity.

Excerpt from Chinese-English Dictionary of the Vernacular or Spoken Language of Amoy: With the Principal Variations of the Chang-Chew and Chin-Chew DialectsThe vernacular or spoken language of Amoy, which this Dictionary attempts to make more accessible than formerly, has been also termed by some "The Amoy Dialect" or "The Amoy Colloquial;" and it partially coincides with the so-called "Hok-kien Dialect," illustrated by the Rev. Dr. Medhurst in his quarto Dictionary under that title. But such words as "Dialect" or "Colloquial" give an erroneous conception of its nature. It is not a mere colloquial dialect or patois; it is spoken by the highest ranks just as by the common people, by the most learned just as by the ignorant; learned men indeed add a few polite or pedantic phrases, but these are mere excrescences (and even they are pronounced according to the Amoy sounds), while the main body and staple of the spoken language of the most refined and learned classes is the same as that of coolies, labourers, and boatmen.Nor does the term "dialect" convey anything like a correct idea of its distinctive character; it is no mere dialectic variety of some other language; it is a distinct language, one of the many and widely differing languages which divide among them the soil of China.The so-called "written language" of China is indeed uniform throughout the whole country; but it is rather a notation than a language; for this universal written language is pronounced differently when read aloud in the different parts of China, so that while as written it is one, as soon as it is pronounced it splits into several languages. And still further, this written language, as it is read aloud from books, is not spoken in any place whatever under any form of pronunciation. The most learned men never employ it as a means of ordinary oral communication even among themselves. It is in fact a dead language, related to the various spoken languages of China somewhat as Latin is to the languages of South-western Europe.A very considerable number of the spoken languages of China have been already more or less studied by European and American residents in the country, such as the Mandarin, the Hakka, the vernaculars of Canton and Amoy, and several others. These are not dialects of one language; they are cognate languages, bearing to each other a relation similar to that which subsists between the Arabic, the Hebrew, the Syriac, the Ethiopic, and the other members of the Semitic family; or again between English, German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, &c.There is another serious objection to the use of the term "dialect" as applied to these languages, namely, that within each of them there exist real dialects. For instance, the Mandarin, the greatest of all, contains within itself at least three very marked "dialects," the Northern, spoken at Pekin; the Southern, spoken at Nanking and Soo-chow; and the Western, spoken in the provinces of Sze-chuen, Hoo-peh, &c.In like manner the language which for want of a better name we may call the Amoy Vernacular or spoken language, contains within itself several real dialects, especially those of Chang-chew, Chin-chew, Tung-an, and of Amoy itself. In this Dictionary the form of the language spoken at Amoy itself is taken as the standard, and the principal variations of the Chang-chew and Chin-chew dialects are marked, as also a considerable number of the variations occurring in Tung-an, Chang-poo, and some other regions.The language of Amoy, including these subordinate dialects, is believed to be spoken by about eight or ten millions. This is the first dictionary of the spoken language. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good cultural artifact By kacewang Good cultural artifact. You can get a free scanned copy from Web Archives. The version scanned there has annotations by some kind soul in terms of Hanzi characters (Chinese Picto-ideograms). This is particularly helpful when you want to verify the meaning of the hokien word that you are looking up, as sometimes you can't really tell from romanization systems that a particular meaning is meant. The Maryknoll archives hokien dictionaries, free from their website, does not have this disadvantage, i.e. it includes hanzi characters. It is also in Peh oe Ji (POJ), the most extensive historical collections of romanized hokien writings. Now other Romanization systems have proliferated and the Douglas book is useful depending on your ability to transcribe from the different romanization systems you may encounter. I have found using both Douglas and Maryknoll to be sufficient to find the meanings of most text I am trying to read. A good Mandarin Chinese dictionary is also good to have when trying to figure out the meaning when you also have the hanzi script provided alongside the romanized hokien/Taiwanese. Those afraid of navigating this prospect should get the Chinese Character Fast Finder by Laurence Matthews who does an intuitive version of radicals lookup that solves a lot of the "bafflement" when using the real Chinese dictionaries (Cidian)
