By Pat Originally purchased because I knew of the subject of one of the difference-making quilters, but came to be so impressed by so many other quilters making a difference! And so many others whose stories have yet to be told, such as the American Hero Project, started on Vashon Island, Washington....and many groups that have spun off from Project Linus to become independent 501(c)3 charities such as From Our Heart in Lakewood, Washington.

I learned a lot about the art of quilting and about different groups involved in the making and donating of quilts. the added web sites for these groups was a good idea so the reader could look them and get different ideas for their own projects.

As much as I love to look at and marvel handmade quilts, I’d never thought too much about them other than the beauty and comfort they offer.Author Ruth McHaney Danner introduces readers to the amazing people who put into fruition their ideas of how to sooth, calm and comfort people caught in tragic and scary circumstances. The only tool needed is handmade quilts.I’m inspired by those quilters and quilting groups who put their time, energy and resources into making an item that takes hours of work and talent just to give it to a stranger. These are true acts of compassion and love.Under “Comforting the Children,” quilts are made for youngsters in need, children at risk and children whose lives have been upended by disruptions to their families.
