By Pat Originally purchased because I knew of the subject of one of the difference-making quilters, but came to be so impressed by so many other quilters making a difference! And so many others whose stories have yet to be told, such as the American Hero Project, started on Vashon Island, Washington....and many groups that have spun off from Project Linus to become independent 501(c)3 charities such as From Our Heart in Lakewood, Washington.

I learned a lot about the art of quilting and about different groups involved in the making and donating of quilts. the added web sites for these groups was a good idea so the reader could look them and get different ideas for their own projects.

But there is a subversive influence omnipresent in our everyday lives that has a deceptive hold on us. It shapes our behavior in a way that undermines what we know to be true.As citizens of a modern world, we have been deceitfully enrolled in a paradigm that encourages three ubiquitous evils.  These things have become so pervasive, we take for granted how closely they influence our values and control our behavior. Like water to the fish, we have forgotten what we're swimming in - or that we're even swimming at all; and like fish, we go about our day-to-day floating with the flow. From time to time we sense something is amiss, but find it too difficult to identify - too close to navigate away from.Of course, I'm talking about consumerism. The three evils I speak of are what I call, 1) the cheap, 2) the toxic and 3) the too much. We're saturated in it. Like multi-generations of engorged geese, we have been force fed by a relentless corporatocracy consumed by profits. To get our attention, they inventively created what I call the big lie, a string of subliminal myths designed to reinforce a global consumer-base towards feelings of inadequacy and power. And we bought it - hook, line and sinker.Most of the stuff we buy is made cheaply, largely from toxic materials, and shrink-wrapped in plastic with the message that we're not good enough until we have the 'newest model.' As we get fat on junk food, gas guzzlers, gadgets, and yoga pants - bloated by the toxic stuff in everything around us, a small handful of con-artists got rich. Very, very rich. With all the Crossfit and yoga we do, we've not yet demanded a commonsense system of health care that treats wellness, no matter the cost. We're funding prisons faster than we're funding schools. We have no idea where our food comes from, or what known-carcinogenic chemicals went into making them. We've stopped caring about who makes our stuff - or what conditions they had to endure for their meager slave wages.Conscious consumerism is a movement to revolutionize what we buy, why we buy it and from whom. It inspires a curiosity about the origins of the goods we consume, and a commitment to ensuring those purchases support sustainable life. The result of this movement is not just good for us individually as consumers and collectively as members of the human race, it's also good for business and supports macro-ecosystems and economies on a global scale.How do we become conscious consumers? First, we must simplify. We must look inward and discover that the intentional absence of excess creates the tangible space for abundance. We must cleanse ourselves and our homes of the cheap, the toxic and the too much, for they are killing us - all of us. Collier When I moved to California in 2010, I shrank my possessions from a 1500 square foot, four-bedroom home to a 350 square foot, below ground studio. And oddly, I felt at home with fewer things than with more.Evan's book can be summed up with this quote: "The clutter-free revolution is not about tidying up. It's about opening our eyes, and individually taking responsibility for our unintended and careless actions." What we own matters, often more than we think. Think about what a family in the developed world throws away every day--and multiply that by the hundreds of millions of families throwing away similar stuff. And think about the disconnected and the distressed who couldn't afford half of what's in that trash can.It's a somber thought--and it's a thought often overpowered by the media cycle driven by consumption. Evan's book starts with closets and consumption--but grows into a life-spanning manifest on how reducing clutter physically mentally releases us to be more creative. We are not what have; we are what we experience. And who we experience it with.Through the story of Hope, Evan connects us to why he's the perfect person to tell the story. By Charity Gonzalez I have struggles with with clutter and thought a messy bedroom was where the problem ended. I was inspired to get rid of the clutter for a bigger reason - by living simpler I could have more space in my entire life to let in only the things that bring me happiness, the simple pleasures and not the stuff. I'm excited to try out only buying things that truly inspire me and how I feel everyday. Less clutter means more peace. The action steps really helped me organize how I could actually tackle my mess with a really easy method to follow that made a lot of practical sense.

I cannot express enough how these steps have transformed my life.The process is difficult, but completely worth it. I have recently gone through so many boxes and piles of "stuff" that all I can think about is simplifying and clarifying everything I touch.It feels so good to move through a clutter free space. I don't know how I used to function being constantly suffocated by things.They're just things. The important parts of life are the people I care about and the experiences I have. Deceptively so: there's a lot of both content and wisdom here, and Isa serves it up with a writing style that's pure maple syrup sweet and yummy as it goes down. Isa's yearlong adventure is part spiritual journey, part traveling through the four seasons of Vermont, and part climbing adventures. For me, a Vermont resident, it all rings true, from mud season, to the ice climb in Smugglers to the high camp in the Tetons. As for the spiritual dimension, I'm a skeptic, but here again I'm captivated by the mysteries as some part of all of us is. Isa's writer's gift is to offer up her experience with clarity and honesty, humor and humility. I think it's the resolve she gives and the attention paid to her spiritual quest I found most moving --- then again Green Reservoir under a Blue Moon at midnight is a pretty intoxicating place - I know having paddled it and spent many a night there -- and Isa renders it well.

It is a wonderful paradox that while moving forward toward the deeply compelling nature of this light Under a Blue Moon a path is revealed back to the heart and depth of her own soul. We are a reflection of nature and by listening most intently to its most subtle voice whether carried across the water on the song of a loon or echoed through the trees and hills by owls she helps us to connect with the mystery and beauty of life. At first she seemed an athletic woman with a easy smile, but as we visited it became apparent that she radiated an uncommon energy. I crossed her path again high in the mountains and even under conditions of tough weather and thin air, her energy and smile were as strong as ever. After reading Under a Blue Moon, I have a better understanding of the source of her spirit. Her quest for understanding is a great read and challenges our common views of the human experience, in our daily lives or in the great outdoors.

By Moira Allen Having gotten accustomed to the complex designs in books like those of Creative Haven, this just seemed way to simplistic to me. If there is no challenge and/or one doesn't come out with a beautiful design at the end, there doesn't seem much point. I recommend Marty Noble's "Snowflake Mandalas" as a much more interesting and inspiring alternative.

About the Author Ekaterina Lukasheva is a contemporary origami artist from Russia. She was first acquainted with origami as a young student, quickly adopting it as her hobby. Beautifully presented with careful details, the book is a must-have for all modular origami lovers. There is a separate section dedicated to assembly rules which may be very useful to newcomers. Modular origami units are usually relatively simple to fold but people often stumble during assembly. The assembly section with clear explanations is bound to help.The photos are breathtaking and the designs are delightful. The assemblies are reasonably stable without glue for moderate handling. I highly recommend the book.

Ekaterina is a genius and her ability to convey instructions is excellent. A couple of the designs in there are ranked as 3 stars and should be 4 stars (level of complexity) but otherwise this book is fantastic. Her first book is equally as good and the two books have minimal if any overlap in designs. Ekaterina is the next Tomoko Fuse.

By Dirk Mitchell The first thing that may come to mind when you see the title of this book is, "I don't need to read this I am not (or maybe cannot be) a homesteader." That is where you would be wrong, this book is about the Wranglerstar family simplifying their lives and adjusting their priorities. It showcases the successes they have had but also the failures and issues along the way. It is a great read for anyone and really highlights the need to step out of the rat race, slow life down a bit and focus on your family, the people around you, and god.Now that last one may get a few people riled up, and if you watch the Wranglerstar Youtube channel there are more than a few debates about this. Yes the book does quote a few scriptures where the principles and ideas are highlighted and appropriate, however the book is not preachy at all. So whether you are Christian, Atheist, Agnostic, or any other faith the story and experiences that Mrs. Wranglerstar and Cody relate are well worth your time.Mahatma Gandhi said "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." I have always liked that quote because there are a lot of "Christians" that preach about the bible, but they don't live or treat their neighbors accordingly. They do not practice what they preach. The Wranglerstar family show by their videos, this book, and how they treat others that they really are trying to follow Jesus teachings.With all that being said, the best thing about this book is that you don't have to be planning on moving off grid and being a Homesteader to enjoy it. My family and I decided to simplify our lives and we moved into a single wide trailer, on a small piece of land, (less than 1/2 acre) that is not off grid. We did this in order to focus on our family, and our faith, and to spend more time together and really make the most of our time. We are still working towards having less fiscal responsibilities, to make our time even more free to focus on more important things. That is really what Mrs Wranglerstar focuses on in this book. Maybe you aren't going to homestead, or live in a tiny house, or go off grid, even if that is the case the ideas in the book about being more self sufficient and focusing on the important things in life are a great benefit to everyone.Another great part is that Cody and Mrs Wranglerstar come from very different backgrounds (Metric and Standard as it were) and they both have very interesting stories before they came to know each other. This makes for a great story once they are together as well, and that comes through in this book. There are also some basic how to ideas that are very useful canning, carpentry, gardening, and even forest care. Because of the books size they are not all encompassing by any means but they are a great start with references on where to learn more.I am always impressed by the fact that in the Wranglerstar videos they never claim to be an expert on what they are presenting. They simply show they way they have accomplished it so that viewers can learn from it and sometimes offer suggestions on how to improve. The book is no different, if you have watched and enjoy the Wranglerstar channel then the book is a must read. If you haven't seen the channel, then I would recommend reading the book and I am sure it will peak your interest to go look at the Wranglerstar channel.I really don't enjoy much TV anymore, there is so much more to learn from creators on YouTube and Cody and his family do a great job of sharing their interests, experiences, and their life with everyone each week. (A few times a week usually.)

By jinksto I ordered and downloaded the Kindle ebook (.mobi) version from the printer and read it in the Kindle app on my android tablet. The artwork is beautiful and layout is perfect.For the book itself the content is absolutely excellent and is of a quality that regular viewers of the Wranglerstar channel on YouTube would expect. The writing is clear, concise and carefully crafted. The author is open and honest with the reader and avoids pretentiousness. Topics are presented with humility and deference to the reader and subject at hand. It really is an excellent, easy read. When I first recieved the book I had meant to quickly scan the contents and lay it aside for later reading. This led to a couple of hours beside a fire devouring the contents. It's now on my beside table for a second read in a few weeks. I would highly recommend this book, especially for people that have come to know the family through the YouTube channel. Some of the content will be familiar but none of it is redundant for those viewers.

Well, it is ... modern homesteading that is.It is not a guide to building a cabin or a barn. It is not a text on the proper garden. It is not a text on the collection, use, and care of firearms for survival. It is not instruction on selection and situating a home site.It IS a well written, well thought-out relation of a modern family's discovery of their values and priorities in life.It IS an inspiration to anyone that might dream of experiencing modern homesteading on any level from a planter garden out on the balcony to total off-grid independence in the wilderness.

A Warm Look at the Relationship Between a Cat and The Guy Who Grew to Love Him By Ron Collins I was a beta reader of this book, and I can say I totally enjoyed it. Albert Sisson writes the story of The Guy and The Cat in alternating points of view and in a tone that will make cat lovers smile. The story is a mystery, you see? Or maybe it's a Bro-mance. Or a memoir. Or ... well, it's about a cat, so you can call it just about anything, right?

A most timely reprint of an early 19th century classic By Christopher Hopkins A facimile copy of the 1828 fifth edition, it is absolutely brilliant; a must read for any and all Christians that truly carry a heartfelt desire for holiness in their families and themselves. James' soundness of doctine and eloquent style of writing make each page a veritable treasure. A most timely reprint in these most wicked days.

John Angel James understands the heart of man and has written this book specifically for fathers pushing one main agenda: the importance of training their children in godliness. I found this quote helpful and convicting: 'Religion, by every Christian parent, is theoretically acknowledged to be the most important thing in the world; but if in practice the father appears a thousand times more anxious for the son to be a good scholar than a real Christian, and the mother more solicitous for the daughter to be a good dancer or musician, than a child of God, they may teach what they like in the way of good doctrine, but they are not to look for genuine piety as the result: this can only be expected where it is really taught and inculcated as the one thing needful.'The father's own understanding of spiritual truths will be challenged as well as our own hearts thoroughly examined. We owe our children as well as the next generation of the Church our undivided attention and prayers en route to teaching them the ways of God. Fathers, we need to lead that charge!

A present indeed… By Michael McCully John Angell James pulls no punches and reminds us of the wonderful instructions the Bible provides us on everyday issues from friendship to media. John provides bible-based insite on many of the foundational life questions a Christian parent would and should lovingly share with their children. It took me months to get through the entirety of the book but everytime I picked it up I found myself engulfed in John's truthfulness of what the Bible says about my life and the lives of my Children.

Charlotte Perriand is among the foremost figures in twentieth-century interior design. Together with her contemporaries and collaborators Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, she created many pieces of furniture we now consider classics, including the instantly recognizable LC4 chaise. Her pioneering work with metal was particularly instrumental in paving the way for the machine-age aesthetic popular throughout the 1920s and ’30s. The second volume in a planned three-part series, this lavish book covers the years between 1940 and 1955. Beginning in the 1940s, Perriand traveled extensively in Japan by invitation of the Japanese government with whom she worked as an advisor to modernize the country’s design. During this period, she took many photographs documenting traditional Japanese culture, many of which are published here for the first time. From 1952 to 1955, a fruitful collaboration with the Ateliers Jean Prouvé provided for the first time the technical means for Perriand to mass-produce her designs while also further improving Prouvé’s own work both aesthetically and practically. A number of emblematic masterpieces came about as a result of this collaboration, including the Tunisian and Mexican dormitories at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. Covering these important moments and many others, including Perriand’s work in Vietnam, in founding the Formes Utiles movement, and in further collaborations with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand continues the three-volume exploration of this key figure, complete with annotations and a bibliography for further research.

Geary The first volume of this series of 'Charlotte Perriand, the Complete Works' dealt with the first 37 years of her life, the realization of her talent and the influence of Le Corbusier on her work. This volume, which I pre-ordered late in 2014 has, again, exceeded my expectations. This, Volume Two covers the next 15 years of her life, arguably the most productive in any designer's career. The time she spent in Japan and the Far East shaped the rest of her career as she struggles to justify the 'machine for living, with vernacular form and organic materials. So much detail is revealed here which is left out of virtually every other publication on her life and work. It is gratifying to at last be able to see the full threads of her design process and the visual documentation of her influences from other cultures. The biographical information included in this series is an unexpected bonus as most books of this type are long on design but short on biographical context. There is so much material here, [over 520 pages and hundreds of illustrations], that it has taken me some time to get through it all. I believe that this will become the go-to reference on Charlotte Perriand for generations to come. This is truly the best value in a design book that I have found for some time. The fact that it is being offered in installments gives me a great deal to look forward to. When can I sign up for Volume 3?

Interesting Biography By Andrew Dreves, ASID Ms. Perriand is mostly known for her collaborations with Corbusier, but this biography provides moredepth beyond her years of only working with Corb, relaying her interesting stories of working in Savoie at Meribel, herliving in Japan during the War and the influence of asian cultures on her design work. A must read for young designerssearching for their own career path.

But the good news in "A Second Chance By Tina Woodbury This book is the raw, real deal about the power and wisdom needed to take responsibility for our own lives--the choices and decisions we make or don't make--and how we can learn and grow from them all, after the fact or after the "fail." It's important to know that we all fail at something at some point in our lives. It's important to know how we fail and the ways we are tempted that lead to our failures. But the good news in "A Second Chance," is that the grace of God is never on vacation. It follows us, calls us, redeems us, sets us free and strengthens us over and again. I recommend this book to anyone who feels broken and that they can't come back wiser, stronger and better. The question is, "Do you want a second chance?"

By A Customer I read the book approximately four or five years ago; the book was given to me from a friend who knew a lot about vote fraud and The League of Women Voters. The book upset me so much I had to include it in my other college readings at the time. I could not put it down. My memory isn't that great about the specific details, but I do recall incidents that involved Claude Pepper, Dade County, Janet Reno greatly upsetting some lawyer who was going to represent the two brothers, the League of Women Voters on a video tape, shown, I believe if I am correct, on the 700 Club punching holes in voting cards to make the votes invalid and other unbelievable, unconstitutional acts that would shock the citizenary to the core of their structured, Americanized belief system.Upon finishing it, I xeroxed a petition that was at the back of the book and mailed it in to the President expressing my deep concern regarding this horrible matter. The Colliers should start a newspaper or write a series for a newsaper to make this national disgrace known. They would definately win the Pulitzer Prize for public service!

By Jon Fairhurst This is a "must read" for anyone who smelled a rat in the 2000 presidential election. Written eight years before the fact, the authors accurately predict Janet Reno's inaction and Justice Scalia's brazen decision, which effectively shut down the couting process. Not just theory, the Collier brothers personally discovered and present hard evidence of decades of Florida vote fraud.The clues point to a systematic corruption of our voting system by the heads of the major mass media corporations. It's no surprise that Bush's cousin at the Fox news decision desk triggered the stampede of "BUSH WINS" graphics. And its no surprise that searching every mass media website will yield no hits on the word "votescam".This book does not lean towards either major political party. It simply champions democracy, freedom of information and the need to enforce our voting laws. Buy it. Read it. Take action to revive our right to vote. Don't let the claimed 4-6 week wait dissuade you. I got my copy after a wait of only four days on December 10th, 2000.)

During any fraud investigation the evidence uncovered is assigned a weight, meaning some facts trump other facts to determine the future course to be followed. Some facts are an elephant in the room. To attempt to discredit this book as another "conspiracy theory" without refuting the charges contained within it's pages is to ignore the weight of the evidence. Names, events, places, and charges are enumerated in detail. If you read this book, a simple dismissal as a "wild eye conspiracy theory" will not satisfy you. It will only reinforce the authors evidence. If you are concerned about our Democracy, read this book.

I'm doing so because this book is a waste of time. It was obviously written by someone who doesn't speak English as a first language. It is loaded with hundreds of type-os, sentences that don't make sense, and is a grammar disaster. If the information inside was anything more than what I have already learned by watching a handful of YouTube and Amazon produced videos, I would have appreciated it despite the broken language. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Amazon, you have better standards than this!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Pure Drivel By boo radley Don't waste your time or money on this abomination. The content is all vacuum. No specifics or how-to's anywhere in it. It's just a lot of ghost-written ("Alexa Williams") gushing along the lines of "You can do this, or you can do that, etc." Doesn't anyone at Amazon even glance at books it offers for sale? Poorly written, riddled with grammatical bloopers. I'm not sure any editor could salvage this - or should even try.
