Wonderful organizing book By MamaGiggles After reading and loving Marie Kondo's The Life Giving Magic of Tidying Up, I was excited to see an American Christian take on the same subject. I prefer Shannon's book for many reasons, but two of the simplest are 1) I live in a house and therefore have more stuff than a Tokyo apartment and 2) I prefer to thank God for my blessings than inanimate objects. Thanking my possessions for their service before putting them away or throwing them out was never going to happen. However being grateful to God for my family and all of the blessings that we have is something I need to do more.Even more practically, I heard Shannon speak at our MOPS group and ever since have stored or ironing board under our couch so I can watch TV while completing one of my least favorite household tasks. In the book she also reveals another winner that I intended to implement in my household: keeping board games close to where you play. They seem simple, but weren't happening in my house until I read them and realized my storage, while logical, isn't as practical as it could be.There are lots of other great reasons to love her book, but those are some easy ones for me!

Organization book that doesn't stress you out By Megan Ericson Building Your House doesn’t include detailed tutorials on how to organize your kitchen cabinets, but cuts deeper to the heart of the matter—your relationships with your husband, children and Christ. Shannon helped me realize the anxiety I feel about the clutter in my house or our hectic schedules won’t be fixed by finding the perfect color-coded chore chart, but by how I manage my expectations, finding what works for my family and, most importantly, dedicating my house to the Lord. Unlike other organizing books I’ve read, Shannon gives you peace of mind and not a piece of her mind. Her goal is to create more peace in your life by not only clearing out the physical clutter, but the mental and spiritual guilt we carry as wives and mothers. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and defeated, I finished the book thinking, I can do this!

It focuses also on the psychological and spiritual clutter that results from the physical clutter. It touched on so many important topics. As I was reading, I often thought, “Yes, yes, yes!” and “I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way.” If you’re looking for a way to walk closer with Jesus and be a better mom/wife, this book is for you. It goes deeper than your typical organization book and gets to the heart of the matter: organizing you, inside and out.
