About the Author Brought up on a long-established Texas farm, James McAllen helped his dad and grandfather till the ground and plant their annual vegetable gardens the traditional way. Having earned a BS in Horticulture from Texas A&M University, James saved his money and bought a farm of his own, but he didn’t know how he wanted to garden until he researched the seven best-known methods. The book reviews seven different types of gardening and includes a description of each method, why people would choose that type over another type and the advantages of each type of gardening.There were a couple methods I had never heard of before and I found those methods in particular to be very interesting. The Mandala method will create a very beautiful scene while also providing a great place to grow your plants. Also the Aquaponics method not only provides fruits and vegetables but also protein in the form of fish. What a wonderful self sufficient system!The advantages of eating food that is cleaner, healthier and more nutritious is a strong reason to get into gardening. Not to mention the financial savings. It's great to imagine going into your cellar to choose home canned tomatoes and fruits to make for dinner during a cold winter and not be required to go out to a store.This book is a great resource to help people get started on the road to healthier eating and the other benefits of gardening.

By Anee I love this book, it has many interesting ways of gardening but I was mostly interested in the straw bale gardening.From talking about stress relief to the best time to buy straw bales, this book helps you make the right decisions depending on your circumstances.From the horrible haircut trick to the right type of watering system this book will lead you step by step through the straw bale gardening system so you do it right from the start.It was great to find out that you don't have a problem with pests.A must have for anyone who wants to learn this way of gardening.
