Excerpt from Pigeon RaisingThe work of raising pigeons is light and interesting, the profits large and steady, but it is a business that must be brought to a scientific basis from the very start and it embraces many branches of very practical knowledge. Few people who go into pigeon raising take the trouble to understand this or to study the nature of pigeons on whom they are entirely dependent for success in the enterprise. Pigeons by nature are as delicate and refined as the most sensitive human beings and it requires knowledge and skill to handle them profitably. The pigeon raiser to be successful financially must center his interests on the welfare of his subjects, who are entirely dependent on him for everything, or cut loose his wire netting and let them shift for themselves. Not every person is fitted for raising pigeons. A person of very sensitive feelings should not engage in the business.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Terrific Antiquated Source of Information for Commercial Squab Production on the Small Farm Homestead By Bill Anderson Even though I'm giving this 48 page booklet five stars, it could be greatly improved by adding photographs and updating the cost/revenue information.I do appreciate that this book was made available and am grateful that the, apparently, scanned and OCR'd text was, almost entirely, cleaned up and edited, removing most errors and making for a quick and fun read.I highly recommend Pigeon Raising for anyone interested in producing squab meat for home or market.

I wish I could figure out what "Princess Brown" is/was. She mixes it with crude oil to create a wood preservative. Probably highly toxic now. ;-) Anyway, this book is like a journal of how to and how not to raise pigeons back at the turn of the century. As much as has changed since then, pigeons are still pigeons, so the information is very useful. Illustrations or photos of the different types of pigeons would indeed be awesome.
