By James Ashcroft I'll readily admit that buying a book written by a hair stylist is not a normal, every day transaction for me. But I had heard that Patrice's book isn't about hair, it's about total personal development. Patrice says that the hair is an extension of how one feels about their life. I love personal development and was very intrigued about this new angle. It doesn't disappoint and it's easy to see how Patrice is considered one of the world's most elite stylists and future personal development teachers.

Been getting these for years and feel there are much fewer recipes and quality of the recipes were poor. Lots of quick, assemble ingredients ( not real cooking/baking). Frozen waffles with fast food chicken strips, really! Not the Southern Living I have loved for years.

While I did find some recipes I'm sure I'll like, and some decorating ideas, I do not feel this particular book was one of Southern Living's best. I went back and forth about keeping it, and finally decided to not send it back.

The energy of the gravedigger By Aquamarine Starkweather's poetry subscribes to the principle of "start from where they are"--his language is everybody's language, taken from all the banal, artistic, thoughtful, or stupid contexts in which we use it. It comes back at us in surprising ways and forms, as both text and image. Also as number, gif, and board game. This is poetry from a writer who has no sense of boundary or genre, and the result can be extraordinarily powerful. There's a lot of pain, but it's cathartic and invigorating, and in many cases very funny. The book is full of passages I'd love to quote but that Amazon would probably blank out, and I can't reproduce the book's emojis, so I will just say that my favorite poem is called "how to enjoy your new ghost."

By Tam Davis I had trouble figuring out how to write about this book. It was a surprise to me, and I don't want to ruin that same surprise for others. This review might end up being a bit of a spoiler, so if you want to be surprised, too, then you may want to ignore it and read the others here.I had pre-conceived notions about Pain, The Board Game, based on how it was advertised. There was controversy over the fact that it'd been refused by a handful of Nashville publishers before landing on the doorstep of Third Man Books. Between the title and the idea of it being "banned", it came across as something titillating, subversive, perhaps even perverse. So when I finally received it and began reading, I was initially a bit disappointed to find that it doesn't at all explore the dark and possibly sexy areas I was hoping to explore. But then I realized the effect it was having on me instead. For anyone who's struggled as I often have to find meaning in metaphor-heavy poetry, Starkweather's poems are a bit of a revelation. So simple, barely punctuated (except with the occasional emoji), and totally relatable. These poems are about a life that so many of us non-artists can easily identify with, it's as if he's both an artist and a "regular" person, too. The pain of the book is the mundane aspects of life lived in an office and in the shopping mall and in front of a computer, phone, or other contemporary gadgets. But there's striving, too-- Striving to find hope and beauty amongst the mundane, to rise above it by expressing it. To borrow a term from Buddhist philosophy, it's 157 pages of dukkha, and so many of us can relate to that, as so many of us are "Slave[s] of the Desire To Be" in today's society that is "entrenched in the meh-struggle". Read this book, and join the struggle to rise above meh.

Gen X Poetry for Today By Amazon Customer I bought this as a fan of the publisher and the projects that it supports and found is a good fit for alternative voices. I write poetry like Starkweather and appreciate his style, form, and play on words. I laughed out load at his existential and banal musings in the style of Douglas Coupland's Generation X. The QR codes do work and are amusing to click on while reading, making the presentation interactive, especially with Starkweather's commentary in the footnotes.In terms of criticism, he does mention poetry in a few too many times (I know it is a poem, you don't have to tell me), which seems amateur. The middle section of the collection is written like a play and was tedious reading for me, but I applaud the author's giving his poems an alternative form and breaking up the flow. I am not sure when the poems were written, but many of the themes speak to the crisis phase between legal adulthood/post-college and actually being an adult (bills, relationships, in short, responsibility). I would like to think that many of the themes are still present for the millennial generation, but as a X'er it brought back memories.Bottom line: I read about 10 poems a night and looked forward to picking up his collection. I would read many parts of this collection again and will keep in on my bookshelf. It will be interesting to see what Starkweather produces when he turns 40.

I often add a bottle of wine to the gift. Everyone loves them and they look forward to receiving one the next year. They in turn buy them and give them a gifts. Not a how to, but a do you have the skills and aptitude and attitude to actually live off the grid.Calvin sets out 5 levels of living off the grid from just not being on the electrical grid to being totally unfindable, disappeared into the far yonder. For each of these levels Calvin lays out some of the issues that arise in attempting to live at those levels. He also lists some of the skills needed to live at these levels. Calvin suggests some personal tests to see if you are up to the demands of living off the grid.While this is a short, little book, it is a great book for someone considering moving into self sufficiency at various levels. Calvin suggests that many people just do not have the aptitude, attitude, or skills necessary to actually move off the grid, to go black, to become totally self sufficient. This book is for those considering moving off the grid and a discussion of the issues that that decision involves. As such it is a valuable book as a first step. Instead of delving deep into food gathering, or bee keeping, or weapons, or bug out bags or basic and advanced survival skills, Calvin's little book is asking, “Do you really want to make the plunge into “living off the grid.” And for many people that answer is “Yes.” And for many more people, that answer is “No.” Better to find out early in the game before you plunge into far beyond your abilities and level. By Amazon Customer The ideas of waking up every morning to birds singing, no more machinery humming, no electricity and water bills, no vehicles charging down the street, just breathing in the clean air and flourishing kitchen garden sounds wonderful. Though I am not considering to go off the grid as of now, I was keen about what it takes to attain self sustainable life style. I found the different ways to try pretending that I am off the grid were great to give me that experience without jumping into it right away. It was a good read.

Some basic knowledge along with tips and motivating aspects are essential before taking a decision, great help!

By catadupa There is so much negativity and misperception about Pit Bulls out there, that a book such as this (and the first Loyalty Unleashed) is a wonderful antidote to all that is perceived bad about these truly wonderful dogs. Sue Torres has done a great job of compiling Pit Bull owners' stories that warm the heart. Briefly, to know one is to love one; I discovered that myself and this book reinforces the fact that if you have heard only negative things about Pit Bulls and are scared of them, then make a point of getting to know them - you will not only be pleasantly surprised, you will also find yourself picking up both these books again and again, as the stories in them will make you smile and confirm your change of heart.

This book is just a spectacular look at pit bulls, a beautiful breed which is wildly misunderstood. Sue Torres takes you into the psyche of these beautiful animals and what makes them so special, and such amazing pets. Loyalty Unleashed II made me laugh, made me cry, and made me love my pit bull just a little bit more. This is an ABSOLUTE must get for all animal lovers and pit bull owners!

I love the follow ups on the dogs from the first book and all the photos. This book really illustrates how wonderful these dogs are, and how wrong the public perception and media portrayals are. If you don't own a Pit Bull yet, you will definitely want to go rescue one after reading this book!
