It's something that only recently came into the nursing literature, and if you find yourself faced by that, this book can really help. The author, Phyllis Quinlan, specializes in helping people overcome compassion fatigue, and this book will take you through what you can do to help yourself. Through exercises, reflection, and making simple changes in your life, you can realign your perspective.I found this book to be well-researched, informative, and detailed. I like how clear the section headings are as well as how the author listed out the references so you can check them out yourselves for further reading if interested. What I also found was unique about this book is the sense of connection between the author and readers--Quinlan is not simply just instructing the readers to do this and that--it's like chatting with an old friend; the author gives advice, guidance, and useful anecdotes. What I found particularly interesting was the discussion of Feng Shui to reenergize your life. I did not think it can have such a big impact, but the author has me convinced! I think things like this (Feng Shui, reflection, etc) really exemplifies the word 'holistic' in the title.Overall, this is a great book for anyone who may be experiencing compassion fatigue. The author covers a wide range of topics as well as give advice and solutions to help readjust your thinking and perspective so that you no longer experience compassion fatigue. It's very easy to read, well organized, and well researched. I highly recommend it!

The gift of a compassionate heart By Jessie Hazel Being a nurse is not an easy job.The gift of a compassionate heart, the excitement to make a difference in someone's life and the heart to serve the suffering, make an individual choose a profession in nursing.But the compassion fatigue triggered by the stress of working long hours and the responsibilities of the profession, can make a nurse loose his/her caring nature.Phyllis Quinlan addresses this challenge faced by the nurses. Her knowledge and experience has made this book very informative, detailed and extremely helpful. Her writing skills makes this feel more like a conversation with a friend. The incidents from her life makes this book all the more interesting.The author's guidance, small exercises and the life skills she suggests, are immensely helpful to realign your perspective and rediscover the true joy in nursing. I highly recommend this book, for this helps you find your true self once again. This excellent guide to overcome compassion fatigue, by Phyllis Quinlan, will help you rediscover your passion in care giving, and remind you the reason you wanted to become a professional caregiver in the first place !

She loves planting and I know when I saw this book she will love it also.Well, I'm right, When she finished to read it. About the Author As reported by a very reliable source, the third word Lisa Strassheim ever spoke was “cat". This was odd, since the family’s only pet was a German Shepherd, which she knew to be very much a dog. Being born cat-obsessed led to collecting and studying all things Cat from an early age. Simple cat drawings and paintings began by age four, and progressive development of more complicated cat art has continued throughout her life. In her twenties she began a series of pastel cat portraits in the Realism style, which led to the decision to pursue a formal art education. Lisa Strassheim has explored, and had success with, various art forms including painting, drawing, jewelry design, and porcelain cat dolls. She has exhibited and sold her abstract paintings in art galleries internationally. Her latest exploration is cat-themed coloring books for coloring enthusiasts. Each cat illustration begins using old school techniques of pencil on paper, giving them an imperfect sketch-like quality. The artist finds that making art in this way creates a relaxing meditative mood, as she experienced while creating abstract paintings; coloring the illustrations has a similar effect. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Purrfectly Delightful! By Anne S I love these cat drawings. Each cat is so different and detailed. All 30 drawings are printed on one side only. The paper is medium weight so I’d suggest putting a sheet of cardstock or paper under the one to color just in case of bleed through. The images fill the page but have a small white border that can be colored, or it gives space to cut out the page from the book since the binding is glued. I love all the different breeds of cats including a Scottish Fold and several Persians, some are fantasy themed. I’m no artist but I find coloring the cats easy because the drawings include areas to shade. I highly recommend this coloring book.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. 30 Cute Cat Designs on Beautifully Patterned Backgrounds – printed on one side of non-perforated paper By iiiireader [[VIDEOID:62bd216ce9773ec9e7e2355204fe8de5]]This is a coloring book filled with a variety of different cats in various poses. They are realistically drawn cats (though a couple of lovely flowers drawn on their fur to make coloring more fun!) The artist has given us a lot of detail on the fur, so it is easy to get two tones in without too much effort. The backgrounds reflect some wonderful patterns that will make color choices a fun experience. While the cats are drawn realistically, I may have some fun with a few of them and give them wild colors of fur - why can't I have a pink, purple, or turquoise cat? I would never do it to my real cats but these are the pets of my imagination and the sky is the limit.All of the design stop well before the binding. The designs are printed on one side of thin white non-perforated paper that is typical for books published by CreateSpace. The binding is glued but there is plenty of room for you to cut a page out if you choose to do so. All of the designs have a “framing” line around the outside. I really like this as it gives me a natural stopping point, saves ink/pencil, and also gives me a more finished looking project when I color.All of my markers bleed through and my gel pens either bleed through or leave a distinct shadow on the back of the page. My coloring pencils work well with the paper. I will use a piece of chipboard or heavy paper behind the page I am working on so I don't ruin the following page with leaking ink.While I could wish for thicker, perforated paper, it appears that this is the quality that comes from CreateSpace (which is an Amazon company.) What I really like about the CreateSpace is it is a way that independent artists can get their work self-published. That way, I get a huge choice of design styles albeit with not the best paper.I received a free sample of this coloring book for test and review purposes.

I thought it was how to quilt, but it's a weird rant about the history of quilting and how quilting has been part of society historically and the author is obviously someone who does not use English as their primary language. The entire text is like a blog with random side roads that seems to be some emotional testimony to the author's love of quilting. Not helpful at all in teaching the basic quilting techniques needed to create a quilt. Very difficult to read.

It touches on the basics of quilting and a quick overview of its history. It discusses everything from essential tools and materials needed to choosing a design to actual process of quilting and creating your very own beautiful piece of art.

I also am an avid hunter and camper, and am trained in wilderness survival.That said - this book contains SO much incorrect information! Some examples:1. A plant in the book is identified as 'poison nightshade' and the accompanying writeup describes a person dying instantly if he or she eats the berries. The photo is actually atropa belladona, not nightshade. Belladona is a poison, but is useful medicinally as well.2. Duchesnea indica (Indian, or false strawberry) is not poisonous. It is, however, not very flavorful.3. Dandelion milk is not poisonous. The entire plant - from root to flower- is edible.4. Acorns are edible, but must be leached to be palatable.5. You cannot close your pores with cold water to prevent poison ivy or poison oak, or open your pores with hot water to flush it out. Actually, you cannot open or close your pores, as they have no muscles. And, poison ivy is not really a poisonous plant. People react to the oil on poison ivy if they are allergic to it.6. A snake is not going to run after you and attack you if you run away. Seriously.7. Bears are not going to get mad at you for sealing your food. A bear is not a person. It can't form a basis of opinion like that.So, this book is not worth the money, is not a good book, and is not recommended.

I always look for for edible wild plants during trekking. Being able to identify plants in wilderness is lot of fun and I feel connected to nature. I found this book helpful in recognizing a wide variety of plants and i am also able to differentiate edible plants from non edible ones.I enjoyed reading the survival techniques and edible oddities.The pictures made things easier for me.

I feel it's always good to be prepared for any kind of situation. This book is pretty informative with pictures. With the help of this book I am able to recognize edible , poisonous and medicinal plants. I am glad I gave this book a try.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not Your Kids Coloring Book By Cutawayguy Will rate two "cutaway" books today, and giving them both 5 Stars because they both met my expectations. I actually copied (Xerox) covers of a ton of Haynes Manual covers out of their reference library in California to get all of those cutaways. These are much cleaner copies of those pieces than I could ever get out of that copier back 20+ years ago. The real treasure here is that these are not elite race cars or sports cars, but everyday cars that people owned and drove and repaired. Even if you are not into the artwork style, and Terry Davey was really good at this kind of thing in the classic style of an Allington, this gives you a look into the history of automotive Engineering under the pretext of almost being a kids book. If you actually have kids, get two so you can keep one of them clean for yourself.
