54 of 54 people found the following review helpful. Detailed Combination Book on Short Rows By Spencer in Seattle Carol Feller is back with another comprehensive book -- this time it's on short rows. If you haven't knitted with short rows before, the basic gist of this knitting technique is that it allows you to add fabric in curves (such as on a shoulder, sock heel, or collar). You can also use short rows to create cool and interesting patterns in shawls when you don't want to expand an entire row. Feller goes over a number of short row techniques in the book, not just the basics that most of us have tried before coming to this book. (I'd previously only done basic short rows on the shoulder of a sweater, for example.) Feller really expands on most short-row knowledge as she does German and Japanese short rows in this book, and they work quite differently.Note that this book is intimately connected with Carol Feller's Craftsy class titled "Essential Short Row Techniques." If you take the class online, which is made up of video lessons and interactive options, you not only get some additional insights -- you also get to hear Feller's amazing and wonderful Irish accent. It's as charming as her knit wear. All of the lessons in the book are treated in much more detail in the Craftsy class, so if you're a visual learner you might benefit a lot from the videos on Craftsy. As I see it, the book is a companion to the detailed Craftsy classes that are available online.Also keep in mind that all 20 patterns are on Ravelry in preview mode. Looking over there you'll get a good sense of these 20 projects.In terms of what kind of book this is, it's a combination book. By this I mean that it begins with instructional material about particular stitch techniques (with drawings), then moves onto patterns. The patterns are written about the described in ways that will teach you the various short-row techniques that each involves and covers.As you can surely tell from this review, I'm a BIG fan of Carol Feller's books, patterns, and overall approach to knitting. I was very much a DIY/self-taught knitter before discovering Feller's video lessons via Craftsy, and was quickly enchanted by her teaching style and can-do attitude when it comes to all kinds of knitting. This is another wonderful book from her.

I've taken a couple of Carol's classes on Ravelry, one of them being how to use short rows on your shoulders, so this book continues with more. Awesome instructor. Just looking through this book one time I found at least 5 swesters I just have to make.

Due to limited shelf space at home, most books do not make the cut. Almost immediately upon opening this book, I knew I needed to purchase it. While I may never make the patterns contained in the book, the technical sections will be invaluable as I write my own patterns and modify patters designed by others to obtain a perfect fit.

I had the good fortune to be able to travel to New Jersey in 2008 so my dog reactive Pittie could attend her C.A.M.P. Reward program (now- Reward Zone). It was fun, informative, and a definite learning experience. From there, I have read ALL of her books and watched her DVDs. I have also taken her online classes. She never disappoints and this new book is no exception. It is well written, easy to read and understand and covers everything from basic manners training to behavior problems. I couldn't wait for it to be published and wasn't disappointed :). Thanks, Pam, for being the caring, instructive, positive trainer that you are! I just wish you were closer to my area because we have a small canine rescue and pull the seniors and those with behavior problems- we could use you in this area!

She has written a fabulous book about training dogs that will benefit both the pet owner and novice or professional instructor. This in-depth volume bears Pam’s signature stamp of breaking tasks into small steps that make learning effective and fun for dog and human alike. When I think of Pam, I think of someone who really “gets” dogs and who stands out in her ability to teach using practical, simple, realistic, and effective dog-friendly methods. This wonderful book is chock full of easy to follow approaches that work with family dogs, working dogs, high-performance dogs, and dogs with problems. It is precisely because of its practicality and comprehensiveness that I am using this book as one of the texts in my Animal-Assisted Play Therapy training program. This is an absolute must-read for everyone who trains their own or others’ dogs!

By Gopakumar Menon Pam has yet again produced a book that primarily guides one on how to connect with your animal and communicate effectively to create demonstrable and consistent results. The best part of the book was "what are you not doing right"; which is crucial to setting the stage to do the right things. Her lucid and humorous style of writing makes it an enjoyable and immensely educative reading.

All completely hand drawn so not like your generic colouring books on the market. Book is all single sided on medium weight paper so pretty much any colouring medium can be used (maybe pop an extra sheet of paper behind if using felts) Really really well made book, very impressed. There are a range of images from simple to intricate, all really beautiful. Not full of animals that have already been done to death in colouring books already!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Lovely and fun to color! By MK9576 I am an adult coloring book fanatic and this book has made a nice addition to my stash! The designs are fun and the details allow me to play with lots of color, sometimes I manage to use all the colors in a set! Great fun when tying of new sets of pencils! The designs in his book are one sided and the paper is decent. Not as thick as some, but I haven't had problems with it. The paper takes the colored pencils very well. I've tried out three different colored pencil sets on this book - Ergosoft by Staedtler, Irojiten by Tombow and Lyra Polycolor.So far this has been an enjoyable coloring book and very relaxing! One of my go to books for a first foray with a new set of pencils and also a fun alternate when I'm not playing with Secret Garden, Enchanted Forest or Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford. The paper isn't as high a quality but I seems to work just fine with my pencils! I love the exotic animals in this book. That's the main reason I picked it and it is fun to pick up at the end of a long workday!

By Jody E [[VIDEOID:4c1f9bb47b24fd7c52dc0c2aeae49ff0]] This Exotic Animals Coloring book is Astounding! I have already found my favorite pictures in this book. There are 35 pages of animals that you do not see in other coloring books. That is what makes this exotic. The animals range from things like a koala, horse and owl to a hippo, ant-eater and a sloth. You get a little bit of everything. I love the fact that they are printed on single sided medium weight paper. When you get books that are printed on both sides of the paper, you often end up ruining the 2nd picture unless you are using coloring pencils which I rarely do. These Exotic animals are hand drawn by Katie Packer who is an amazing artist.The pictures range in levels from beginner to expert but I am no expert and there is not a picture in here that I won't try. When it comes to coloring, trying is all that matters. Imagination is the key to everything. The Komodo dragon is amazing and I am very excited to color it. The point really of adult coloring is to relieve stress and anxiety so just let go and color to your hearts content. I could honestly color for hours and hours and not get tired of doing it. If you think my review is helpful then please so say. I am extremely lucky because I was able to receive this book in exchange for my honest review.

By A Customer Steve Solomon's "Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades" is a truly wonderful book and a must for anyone gardening west of the Cascades. "Composting" is a very good book, but is variable. It feels as if Solomon is getting a little crotchety as he ages, and the book would have profited from an editor with a strong pen since the writing style occasionally gets annoying.Solomon's explanation of Carbon Nitrogen ratios is excellent. I now understand better why my compost does what it does at different speeds different times of the year. He is realistic about the benefits of compost and does not uncritically accept the Rodale "Organic" party line. However, I think he goes too far in rejecting it. Solomon has clearly seen many people overcompost and damage their soil's ecology. Yes, too much of anything can be bad and one can increase humus content irrationally, but I think he is too negative. Most of the gardens I see have been neglected and one really can "build the soil" to improve fertility, moisture retention, etc. I would prefer the message to be "It takes time. Don't try build your soil too fast. Do soil tests regularly." not "only try replace the humus you take out". He ends one section with "I conclude that organic matter is somewhat dangerous stuff whose use should be limited...". On this I disagree strongly. In my experience it is a rare case when someone overcomposts. However, I must strongly agree with Solomon on the advantages of using soil testing and using a good organic fertilizer mixture in addition to applying compost on your garden. He gives his famous recipe for complete organic fertilizer (I originally saw it in "Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades") and I can vouch for its efficacy.Solomon raves about poor nutrient value of vegetables caused by over composting. I only partially buy his nutrition arguments. Yes, poor soil can grow veggies with poor nutrition. But the argument does not follow not to build your soil. If veggies grow well and taste great, I trust that measure of nutrition. On the nutrition argumentshe is doing what he accuses other of, making an assertion and providing noevidence to back it up.If you are interesting on composting the book is well worth reading. In fact, it is probably more fun because of the flaws I have just complained about.

What I can't stand is the horrible formatting in the Kindle version. Several instances of words being connected together without spaces in between, tables being completely unformatted, and just plain weird paragraph formatting make this a terrible book for the Kindle. I'm highly disappointed with the Kindle version. Buyer beware.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Composting - The Bible By C. Smith Steve Solomon's work in producing the Organic Gardener's Composting is second to none. His research standards are those of a true academic, yet his writing and general presentation of the material is accessible, non formulaic and for a book of this nature, subtly novelesque.I headed straight for the chapter on Sir Albert Howard's composting methods at Indore in the 1930's and wasn't disappointed - fascinating reading. Also especially interesting was the chapter on vermicomposting. Steve doesn't seem to add material just for the sake of it unless it meets his rigorous criteria. Could only get hold of a 2nd hand copy at a premium price, but have no regrets - it's a gem!

Huge amount and variety of designs in this beautifully bound book – printed on both sides of page By iiiireader [[VIDEOID:57c729bfd71120183a0c3e007f656673]]This is a book filled with more than 90 fantastic and lovely designs to color. While it certainly made me happy to see the large assortment to choose from, I'm not sure how energized it will make me feel. There are a number of designs with animals and insects in motion, so perhaps that is the idea. The designs cover a wide range from plants and animals to birdcages and teacups. There are a number of artist involved with this book and it shows in the wide variety of styles. This is one of a series of books and I will be picking up the others based on how much I like this one.The cover of this book is gorgeous – it is a matte metallic purple with paisleys, some of which have glossy highlighting. The book is printed on a nice quality heavyweight white paper. The paper is non-perforated and the pages are printed on both sides of the page. The binding is sewn, so removing the pages should be a matter of snipping various threads every few pages to completely remove the pages from the book. The book has rounded edges on the unbound side and is slightly smaller than a regular sheet of paper. The designs stop well before the binding; however, many of them leave elements unfinished without a “frame” of sorts to finish off the design. This makes it more difficult for me to color the design and have a nice finished quality to it.All of my alcohol-based markers bled through immediately. My Stabilo 88's did, too. Only some of my Staedler triplus fineliner markers did (the darker colors.) What worked great were my Tombow dual brush markers. These did not bleed through at all. None of my gel pens had problems and my coloring pencils did well on the surface of this paper.I like the book and the designs but the publishing of the book could have been improved in a number of ways: 1) print one side of the page only; 2) make the pages perforated for easy removal from the book, 3) if you are going to printed on both sides of the page, improve the quality of the paper so that markers can be used, and finally, my own personal nit – put “frames” around the outside of designs that simply stop mid-element.

Great size book, fun and varied designs By Keskat This is my third book I've bought in this series, and they all have a great variety of fun designs on decent paper. The designs are printed on two sides, but I didn't have any problem with marker or gel pen bleed through (though I usually use colored pencil, so I haven't used marker extensively). This book is about the size of a composition book, which is a great size -- I can finish a page in a session or three. I love the Michael O'Mara books overall.

What is absolutely good with this reading material is the option readers can get as to home building. I truly agree with what the author said that today building our own house can become just a pipe dream until you get the the cheapest option. The book gives you helpful information on shipping container houses, what they are and how to built them. the book contain different methods used to create a home using shipping container, different styles of home and different professionals you will need to work with. The book was really an interesting read. I would definitely like to built a container house. The author did a great job.

You could stack them or put them underground...really, a child can come to this concept. If your have limited imagination this book might be helpful. 2 stars for the effort and the few pictures. 1 star for the misleading title, which persuaded me to spend the $3 that really should have been donated to Wikipedia.
