I am a fan of her show on the "Style" channel and think that she is a great voice for all young and "older" women who are still looking for the answers to life... LIKE which fork do you REALLY use for the fish course."The Modern Girl's Guide to Life" is a wonderful compilation of helpful facts, tips, and general know-how. I love the structure, tone, and all around helpful nature of this book. Not to mention the really great way that Ms. Buckingham has of making you feel like you aren't the only one in the world who doesn't really know the best way to ask for a raise - what to wear to the opera - or the basics of buying a home.Ms. Buckingham says that you shouldn't be afraid to ask for what you want - and do something you love.... with that said, if you are looking for new people to work for your company Ms. Buckingham - give me call! :)I love this book - and think that many of my girlfriends will be getting this one for the holidays!Cheers!

This book has taken me from domestic and financial incompetence to confidence in everything from entertaining to better shopping to financial planning so tht I can hope to retire and pay for my kids' college. This book is a lifesaver and will continue to be useful to me (and my friends who I'm giving it to for Christmas) for a long long time.

A novel on Ataturk By Izzet Enunlu If you want to have a less fantasized and a more detailed biography of Ataturk, you should read Patrick Kinross or Andrew Mango. This book is close to fiction than to history. Some parts are exagerated to create a tension and a push to read the text. Moreover the narrative usually does not give any clue why he moved in a certain way. During the book the plot is more important than the information. If you are distant to the history of Ottoman Empire or Turkey, you may easily adopt an unrealistic view.

Armstrong, the author of Grey Wolf, has a unique style bordering on the romantic, and the factual. To blend the two alongwith a narrative touch is a unique achievement which makes reading easy and informative.Grey Wolf is a book about the founder of modern Turkey. It is an account of the salvage of a once great nation whose influence stretched from the Egypt to Central Asia, and whose forces, in the author's own words, "knocked on the doors of Vienna ". Of how a general in the Turkish Army rallied the people of his country with the slogan "Turkey for Turks". It is an account of hopes, dreams. failure, and a prayer that the ideologies that form the Turkish identity do not die.It is good and easy reading without requiring any prior knowledge of history. It is informative, a good lesson on how to build nations, a guide to modern leadership in today's parameters.It is, ultimately, a good book.

Reviewing Ataturk By Mira Ataturk may have been a dictator; brutal and vicious in his forceful transformation of Turkey from a weakening Ottoman Empire, to a Westernized nation-state, but today, he is Turkey's national hero; the father of the Turk.From a rough childhood, to joining the military, Mustafa Kemal stands out as different. Some liked him, but many did not. He possessed leadership skills, and knew how to put them into good practice. His courage and celebrated fortitude cannot be overlooked.Ataturk may have ruled with an iron-fist; brought to an end the longest lasting empire; and Westernized Turkey to the extent of perhaps causing an identity crisis, but he wanted a Turkey for Turks.Ataturk the dictator; the hero.The author remains objective to the best of his ability, and gives us, the readers, the chance to make a final judgment. I enjoyed the book. The chapters are short, and not at all boring - at least for me. I would recommend it to those who are interested.

Lanterns that use mantles produce light on par with electric lights. And KEROSENE mantle lanterns have an advantage over lamps that use Coleman fuel. Kerosene is more generic, more widely available. The book has four main sections: (1) It describes six different Coleman models, old and new, made specifically for kerosene. Collectors’ items (expensive) and orphans (no spare parts) are ignored. The emphasis is on practical, day-to-day lighting. (2) It gives the specifics on converting nine different Coleman gas lanterns to kerosene (what generator to use, etc.). (3) It explains Petromax lanterns, a pre-World War II German design. World-wide, there are more Petromax lanterns (and Petromax clones) in existence than Coleman. (4) And it explains Aladdin lamps, kerosene lamps that use a mantle but are not pressurized. Aladdins have been around over a hundred years and a new model is on the verge of being introduced – the first new model in 46 years! And – oh yes! – this book names eleven different lantern models that, given the right generator-mantle combo, will burn diesel fuel. That alone is worth the price of admission! I like the chapter about aladdin non pressure mantle lamps By jumpinjo There's just not much information out there on the subject of kerosene pressure lanterns. I really appreciate having such a resource. The writing is very plain spoken and precise. I like the chapter about aladdin non pressure mantle lamps. I own two of them and I think with the information in this book my frustration with these will be reduced. The info about converting white gas lanterns to kerosene is priceless. I am going to attempt to convert my 200A to kerosene after reading this book and watching Ron Brown"s video on youtube. More videos Mr. Brown if you can!

It goes into great detail about the pros and cons of kerosene verses Coleman gas and Propane. Kerosene is easily stored and MUCH less volatile than Coleman Liquid gas/ White Gas. Kerosene pressure lanterns are an ideal survival tool. It is not a book about collecting.

Paper comes in so many colors and prints using the techniques and projects feature in this book you could create for every occasion throughout the year and never get board! Most projects are simple to make requiring very little more than the paper and cutting instruments and would be a relaxing if you like to do things over and over to create large decorative pieces. These decorations would be great to do with a group or get the kiddos in on the fun. All the patterns are included so you can make the designs just as featured in the pretty photos.

Not easy to learn when I have been doing crochet from written instructions for a quite while. I bought a pattern online and downloaded and have no clue what to do however. I know that there are flowers in the pattern but there is nothing to say how to start it, only a round of dark dots that are shown to represent slip stitches. I am used to making a chain when doing crochet so I am really quite confused by it all. This is what I really need, it gave clear instructions and easy to understand.

For that I give it 4 solid stars. I've lived in small apts. most of my life, so I could appreciate some of the helpful hints provided by the author here. I just don't think this is such a strong need to devote a book to. But it is clever, and the writing is good. Enjoyable read for someone who likes to help others with design or space saving tips.

I am not sure what the issue was as all the literary books I read always fit on the page perfectly. This was not the case with this crochet book so you could not follow any of the directions. Also, if you buy a book you should be able to print off the pattern which you cannot do. So I could not read it on the Kindle Fire or print it so it was a waste

This book is packed with information on materials to use, how to read a pattern, and even a few easy patterns to follow. It has definitely given me motivation to start crocheting and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get started with crocheting.

My love of canine kind verges on, and sometimes leaps the brink into, the ridiculous. Growing up, my family dogs were always particularly rotten, but also infinitely good. Having them in my life has both enriched and enlivened my days, as well as offered me unique perspectives on a variety of topics. As both a writer and an anthropologist, I have long been fascinated by the dog's role in human cultural evolution. Forming half of this particular commensal dynamic, dogs have changed with us as a species. They have traveled vast distances, endured the hardships of new climates and environmental conditions, and witnessed the birth of agriculture and domestic animal husbandry. Perhaps they even played a crucial role in the success of some ventures, thanks to the unique bond they shared with their humans. Over the centuries, they have remained our stalwart companions, absorbing breed shifting and blending with grace. However, I think that at its core, our relationship with dogs and our mutual needs have not changed all that much in the 15 millennia we've travelled together. We look to them for comfort, companionship, help in a variety of tasks from Service aides, Search and Rescue, and Law Enforcement to work in the fields of herding and ranching. They are always there, ready to help. All they ask is that their needs be met--food, shelter, and perhaps a little affection. This unlikely alliance between a feared predator and our ancestors is perhaps more understandable than one might first suppose. Within these essays, I explore a variety of topics, from silly, personal rituals to scientific advancements in our understanding of canine physiology, human cultural evolution, and even the similarities between the two species--from hierarchical group formation to neurobiology. I'm so pleased to share my experiences and my curiosity with you. With hope, this will inspire you to chronicle your own journey with a Person of Importance and Great Worth. As we say in this household, "No one has such a dog, and no one should. But we do." May everyone be as lucky.

By claire ford fullerton I have had a wonderful Southern California, rainy afternoon going through the essays in this heart-warming, creative book. It is sheer, self-indulgent luxury to read the thoughts of this writer, who clearly knows her way around the myriad reasons so many people love their dog. If you have or have had a dog who is a central part of your life, then this collection is for you. You'll find yourself relating to many dog antics in this book; it will leave you both wanting to share your current dog stories and waxing nostalgic on one now dearly departed. Because this is a collection, there is the great largess for the reader to pause and reflect between essays. This is a book to be savored, read again, and recommended to friends.

This Book Explains Why It Takes an Animal to Make Us Feel So Human By Suzette Forsyth Something of a cross between scientist, storyteller, and poet, Erin Sandlin gets inside the dog’s mind and tells us the dog’s thoughts, which come across as being humorous while simultaneously crying truth. Sandlin reminds us that it is we who need the dog to take care of us rather than it being the other way around. I hate to use cliche, but it truly was a page turner, well in my case a page scroller. This is the type of writing that reminds me why I love to read.As I read the first one-third of the book, there was a smile plastered on my face that grew with the number of pages I read. Such an enjoyable read. I found myself laughing out loud frequently. Anyone who has ever owned a dog will relate and relate in a positive happy way, the way one does when s/he is actually watching a dog being a dog. The text is as mesmerizing as dogs are themselves. It is a happy happy diversion. Read when you are with or without your dog. With your dog you can smile down at him or her and say, “Yes. You do that too. Why do you do that? (By the way, Sandlin might answer that question) And please don’t ever change.” Without your furry friend, you will be reminded of how they make you feel when they are there.The remainder of the book provided loads of interesting information about dogs that I, for one, didn’t previously know, and stories of love, life, and departure. The latter stories could at times tug at the heart, but were never uncoupled with the joy and celebration of the journey together. Sandlin’s insight into what dogs really are, but cannot be known by modern humans to be because of the way man has “handicapped” them, were both interesting and thought-provoking. I found that some parts of the book are indeed sad because of the love, which sometimes hurts, but the emotion, whether happy, playful, humorous, serious, or sad, is real and tugs at the heart in a positive way.This collection of essays serves as a reminder of why we got the damn dog in the first place and why we’d do it again a million times over. This was a tremendously pleasant read and I strongly recommend it to anyone who has ever owned a dog or has ever wanted to.

By Amazon Customer This book is the perfect mix of fact and wit for anyone who has ever truly loved a dog or knows the joy of being owned by a dog. The essays are short and sweet, but they all come together with a flow that moves you through the stories without it feeling choppy. The various dogs mentioned in the stories all have a personality and a life of their own that very easily brought to mind dogs from my past who were similar.

Lowell shows her mastery with flashes of brilliance By A Customer A fan, and writer of poetry myself, I had never heard of Lowell before and found myself stunned by the first work I read of hers, "Patterns." This lead me to read quite a few other poems of hers in a number of her books, and the whole of "Pictures of a Floating World." Although there are many poems that are not very innovative or specifically charming, it is worth the read to discover her brilliance in so many of her poems. The imagist poetry movement of the early 1900's is often overlooked if one is not an extremely avid fan of it, but what a beautiful thing it is when Lowell writes at her best. Her poetry is straight forward, beautiful, loving, "poetic"(ha, ha), tender and emotional, amusing at times, and it, not surprisingly, creates beautiful images in ones mind. Lowell's life is just as interesting as her poetry, and it should be looked in to as well, to gain a better understanding and appreciation for her poetry. Enjoy!

I first read Fir-Flower Tablets which first introduced me to the Chinese poet Li Po. I was enchanted with Pictures of the Floating World and I have spent a good deal of my time collecting her work by haunting bookstores. As a poet myself Amy Lowell was in many ways an influence in my work along with Ovid and Catullus. I am really big fan of hers although I do know that she does not rate with the likes of Emily Dickinson for example or some others. But I like her.

By Amazon Customer Dr. Treece has created a book that outlines a psychiatric profile that is silently one of the most common issues in our society today. In our busy and stimulating world, being a highly sensitive person can be extremely difficult, and her way of outlining how to handle this through the Christian format is extremely refreshing, informative, and helpful. It also includes her own research on the issue which shows her knowledge and dedication on the subject.

By Amazon Customer My counselor recommended I read this book after she suggested I was a HSP, and I am glad I purchased and read this book.Reading it did a few things for me. First, it helped me feel validated and more at ease with who I am as a person. Second, being Christian, I enjoyed reading a book written from a Christian perspective. Third, I liked a paragraph from the book that talks about an acute pain a HSP can feel being raised by non-HSP parents and some of the concerns they may have, which happened to line up with an issue I was seeing my counselor for.At the end of the book the author has a self-test for scoring how highly sensitive you are. Although I scored an 11, which is slightly lower than the suggested cutoff for being a HSP, I still found the book relevant to my situation. Reading the book helped me recognize the strengths and natural gifts I bring in life.

I found this book to be amazingly helpful and educating. It allowed me to seevme in a REAL way less shameful, confusing and more willing to see myself free. By mint tea Most of us don’t like to clean, so we are always looking for easier ways to do the things that we hate around the house. This book has the same idea. It is full of tips to help you do certain tasks, like organizing shelves or drawers, and cleaning your stove. The ideas are broken down into chapters, which involve cleaning, de-cluttering, organizing, decorating, and simpler life. I really like the decorating hacks, especially the washi tape frame, as well as the cleaning hacks. I think I will definitely be trying a lot of things in this book very soon.

Tips that are easy and affordable By Rachel Horon DIY Household Hacks is great becauseIt combines cleaning, organizing, and decorating tips that are easy and affordable. The author has put together her tried and true favorites. Some of them are familiar but reminders of what really works. Some blew my mind by how easy and creative it is. I already do a few but with my own improvisation. For example she uses plastic baskets in her fridge to keep dairy, fruits, and veggies together on the shelves; I use old plastic food storage containers that no longer have lids. The cleaning tips are good. While I haven't had success cleaning my own dishwasher with the same hints, I know the grease remover hack works for sure. And the bed sheets organizer is the best yet! Whether it is all-natural cleaners or simple ways to keep the house organized and ready for anything, this book of hacks has the tips you need or need to refresh yourself on for your home.

This book gives you some ideas about using them in different ways. Have you ever wondered how to get old greasy spots in your kitchen cleaned up easily? This book offers wonderful hints on how to do just that. Have you ever wondered how to get your microwave clean with scratching the inside of it? This book gives suggestions on how to achieve that goal too. This book is absolutely full of ideas on how to clean items in your home with everyday items within your home. Pick it up and give it a quick glance. You may learn a quick way to do something you would otherwise never have thought of before.
